Discovering a castle Castle located in north-Charente , Saveilles combines the characteristics of the castle with those of the pleasure castle, and stands since the 14th century near the village of Paizay-Naudouin (Charente), at the crossroads of the Charente, the Charente -Maritime and Deux-Sèvres, halfway between Niort and Angoulême. The 14th , 16th and 19th centuries rub shoulders there harmoniously. It is a square complex, isolated from the mainland by vast moats filled with water and supported by walls.It is accessed by two stone bridges, fixed, which since the Revolution have replaced the swing drawbridge to the south and the swing bridge with two arches to the north, once defending access to the castle. The entrance courtyard includes a long outbuilding and corner towers. We offer you : either the "guided tour" by the owner himself:a journey through time (7 centuries of history, from the 13th century to the present day, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, including the Renaissance and the French Revolution) for groups, associations and schools from 16 participants, by appointment, all year except January and December; for individuals, up to 15 participants, Sundays at 4 p.m., in summer; or two "fun trails": one suitable for children (from 6 years old), the other suitable for young people from 15 years old and adults, a trail allowing you to discover this place independently and in a fun way, by trying to solve an enigma (summer period), ; either a cultural activity, such as concerts or operas, on scheduled dates, without forgetting the key days such as the "Rendez-vous in the gardens" (June), the European Heritage Days" (September) and "The night of the castles" (October).
